Juan led a life similar to many other teenagers, he had braces, loved his family, and tried to always do the right thing, but had some hiccups along the way. However, just two weeks before

he came into MDM, his life changed dramatically.

Juan suffered from a seizure, and, by the time the ambulance arrived, he had no heartbeat. Paramedics proceeded to perform CPR and shocked him repeatedly with a defibrillator.

Paramedics did this until, finally, Juan had a pulse. They got him to the hospital and he was placed into a medically-induced coma.

For a week, Juan’s family stayed by his side and prayed for his recovery, when Juan miraculously woke up.

Despite this incredible recovery, Juan and his family still faced some troubles.

When Juan had a seizure, he fell hard, face-first into the ground. This knocked some of his front teeth loose, causing so much pain that he has been unable to eat solid food. His family reached out to two different places without getting any responses.

Hope was dwindling until they were referred to MDM. We were able to fit Juan into our schedule just five days after he woke up from his coma.

While an event like his could sour someone, Juan was a pleasure to have in the clinic; he smiled the whole time as he talked to us about himself and sports (Go Raiders!).

After this life-changing experience, Juan feels blessed to have his life and is dedicating himself to use it for good. He is extremely grateful for MDM and our impact on his and others’ journeys, saying, “Thank you for what you do".
